There is this temptation among the free spirited travelling types out there to avoid too much planning because half the fun is not knowing what to expect. This is true to a point but leaving too much up to chance can result in more trouble than it is worth. With so many things that can go wrong when you’re abroad, don’t leave your accommodation up to chance or be faced with any number of complications.

Like what, you ask? Take these for example:

No Room at the Inn

Do you enjoy a safe and comfortable place to sleep? You can easily book accommodation online and have just that, or you can risk it and put all on hope. Chances are you’re not the only genius who decided to go travelling at that exact moment and some places only take guests who book in advance. There are few things more annoying or frustrating than carrying your bag through the streets trying to find a place to stay, only to find they’re all booked up months in advance. Oh wait – it could be raining too.

Pricey Alternatives

Sure, you might be able to find a place available last minute, but at what cost? Chances are you’re on a budget and the last thing it needs is unexpected increases that could’ve been remedied by sacrificing spontaneity a teensy bit. Only looking for a shared dorm? Too bad – it’s the private single at triple the price or it’s the park bench.

Available, But Not Long Enough

The great thing about booking a place in advance is you know it’s yours for however long you booked it for. Let’s say you leave it to the last minute and are able to find a place, but only for one day of your five day trip and have to move accommodations every night, possibly to inconvenient locations far from the action? It’s not worth it.
